DESCRIPTION:Paul Wall has been one of the pillars of Texas mixtape community since 1999\, with his talents earning him a major deal with Swishahouse Records’ 2004 joint venture with Atlantic Records. Wall’s 2005 release of his major album The People’s Champ debuted on Billboard’s TOP 200 at the #1 spot and swiftly achieved platinum status. And in 2007\, he received a GRAMMY Nomination for Best Rap Performance as a Duo or Group for his feature on the song GRILLZ with Nelly and Jermaine Dupri. Today\, the rapper\, DJ and entrepreneur\, is one of Texas’s most successful independent musicians. The avid entrepreneur in Paul today began in 1998\, when he first partnered with the now world-famous jeweler Johnny Dang\, to sell custom gold grillz. Throughout the years they two have built up an iconic clientele of celebrities worldwide\, still selling over 100 grillz per day out of their lavish Houston jewelry store. The inspiration behind the name of his 2005 project was his real nickname “The People’s Champ\,” given to him for his constant work within Texas underprivileged communities. After Hurricane Harvey\, Paul and his wife Crystal opened her fitness studio to gather supplies and donations for people affected. Each summer\, the Walls hosts a Back2School backpack drive to stock young students with school supplies and to foster excitement and commitment around education in the community. Paul Wall also conducts countless toy drives each year around the holidays\, where all gifts are donated to various 501c3 groups to distribute to underserved communities in the area. Paul has been a Governor and Trustee for the Texas Chapter of the Recording Academy (Grammys)\, and with over 100 mixtapes and album releases\, he continues to reaffirm his place and contributions to hiphop.

DESCRIPTION:CMA and ACM award winner Ashley McBryde cut her teeth playing country songs in rural biker bars – and it shows. Her 2018 major label debut Girl Going Nowhere (Warner Music Nashville) charmed The New York Times\, NPR\, Rolling Stone\, Paste\, The Washington Post and more\, all en route to landing a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album. McBryde closed out 2019 with ACM New Female Artist\, CMT Breakout Artist\, a New Artist of the Year win at the 53rd Annual CMA Awards and two nominations for the 2020 GRAMMYs for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance for “Girl Goin’ Nowhere.” Her follow-up Never Will was tagged by Rolling Stone as one of the most anticipated of the year alongside NPR\, who also ranked her Top 10 RIAA Platinum-Certified single “One Night Standards” as one of the best songs of 2019. SUMMARY:Ram Herrera
DESCRIPTION:Ramiro “Ram” Herrera is a smooth-voiced\, award-winning Tejano singer and songwriter\, who is not only a staple on the Texas music scene but is considered one of its legends. He has received a Tejano Music Award as Male Entertainer of the Year and a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Tejano Music Association. He began his professional career with David Lee Garza y Los Musicales in 1980 and appeared on the albums Cuatro Caminos (1981)\, Todavia No Me Muero (1982)\, and Especialmente Para Ti (1983). The following year\, he left and started his own band\, Ramiro Herrera y Montana\, with whom he recorded two albums — Que Lindo Es el Amor and Rosas Para una Rosas. Impressive regional airplay and a compelling live show resulted in Herrera signing to Sony. His solo debut\, Most Wanted Man\, was not only his first in English\, it went gold; it is a classic in the Tejano canon. His third solo album\, 1989’s The Outlaw\, followed suit and his band was renamed the Outlaws. \nFor the next 15 years\, Herrera recorded almost annually and shared stages with a wide range of performers including Doug Sahm\, Freddy Fender\, and Selena — she opened for him at a rodeo in one of her early shows; video of the performance was captured and included in the documentary Corpus: A Home Movie for Selena by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Lourdes Portillo.

DESCRIPTION:You Get It All \nThe country simplicity that imbues Hayes Carll’s songs can sometimes hide the social conscience and sharp humor that also runs through them\, but if you want to find those things\, they are there. In fact\, Carll has spent over 20 years having a conversation about what it is we’re all doing here with anyone who will listen. He makes us laugh––but then he makes us cry. We judge a song’s protagonist\, only for Carll to spin us around to commiserate with them. \n“I like to tug at heartstrings\, find commonality with others\, reflect on my own life\, and sometimes I do it in a lighthearted way\,” says Carll. “A lot of musical styles found their way onto this record\, but my first and most formative influences came from country music. This is a country singer-songwriter record. It’s just unapologetically me.” \nCarll is talking about You Get It All\, his eighth album. His voice\, rich but worn\, has never sounded better. As a songwriter\, he is in top form\, turning droll confessions\, messy relationships\, motel room respites\, and an exasperated\, hitchhiking God into modern nuggets. \nThe New York Times likened Carll’s ability to undergird humor with a weightier narrative to Bob Dylan. When Carll talks about the sounds that are in his own head\, he mentions Randy Travis. That juxtaposition defines the singularity of Carll’s career: He exists in a space of his own\, informed by John Prine\, Tom Waits\, and Dylan but also by Travis\, Kenny Rogers\, and Hank Williams\, Jr. \nThose influences may have made him hard to pigeonhole\, but he’s still been embraced. Two Americana Music Awards\, a Grammy nomination for Best Country Song\, and multiple Austin Music Awards line his resumé́. He’s had the most-played record on Americana radio twice. His songs appear on the screen regularly and have been recorded by Kenny Chesney\, Lee Ann Womack\, and Brothers Osborne\, to name a few. \nYou Get It All was produced by Allison Moorer and guitar legend Kenny Greenberg. Carll credits his partnership with singer\, songwriter\, and artist Moorer\, his wife\, as a force that helps both clarify what he wants and challenge self-imposed limits. “She’s a world-class artist who has a way of helping me articulate my vision\,” he says. \nOpener “Nice Things” layers a laugh-out-loud narrative exposing humanity’s botched stewardship of Earth––and one another––over vintage country cool. In the song written with the Brothers Osborne\, God comes down to check on us––and she is not impressed. “It’s social commentary\, but it’s not dour\,” Carll says. “I hope the song can make people sing along\, laugh a bit\, and maybe recognize that we can do better.” \nThe title track is classic Carll—a front-porch singalong with a deeper message for those who want it. Self-deprecating and sweet\, the song is an ode to bringing one’s whole self to a relationship––the good and the bad. “I’m at a point in my life where that rings true to me\,” says Carll. “What I want\, and what I think a lot of people want\, is to feel like they’re getting the real thing.” \n“Help Me Remember” is a feat of storytelling that tackles an underrepresented topic in art: dementia from the perspective of the patient. “It’s a visual song. To tell this story\, we had to put the listener right there\,” Carll says. “I was thinking about how scary and sad it is for the person who is suffering from it\, and how heartbreaking and frustrating it is for the friends and family going through it with them.”
